Yesterday, it came to the fore that equestrian star and iconic musician Bruce Springsteen’s daughter Jessica will not be flying to Paris as part of Team USA. Despite Jessica proving her worth frequently this year, she could not make it to the national team. While this is undoubtedly a blow to the ambitions of any athlete, Springsteen isn’t one to be bogged down by setbacks, and her own words from five years ago underscore her fighting mentality.
In 2019, Springsteen appeared for an interview with the prestigious World of Showjumping to talk about the passion she harbors for the sport. There, she also talked about how getting on the national team for international events is the ultimate goal for her. Keeping that in mind, representing the US on the grandest stage would obviously be one of her biggest dreams for the 32-year-old. But she also noted how unexpected snags need to be faced head-on.

“It is easy to get defeated, but you have to brush it off and move on,” the 2020 Olympics silver medalist was heard saying about how things don’t always pan out according to plan. However, she said, that the love she holds for her four-legged partners is something that helps her to overcome any fumble along the way. “I think I get through the bad days just because I love the horses so much,” said the rockstar’s equestrian daughter.

“I think in this sport, you lose more than you win. You have to learn from failure and take things away from that, and have it help you for the next round,” Jessica noted how her beloved profession can sometimes be a difficult thing to handle emotionally. Maybe that experience is just what she needs to keep her head above the waters with the roster that’s revealed for Team USA for the upcoming Olympics.

While Kent Farrington and Laura Kraut head off to another Games, their teammate from the Tokyo Olympics Springsteen will have to sit this one out and watch from the sidelines. In April, Jessica was announced as one of the stars shortlisted to represent the Stars and Stripes in Paris, but finally, she wasn’t named to be on the team. The Global Champions League list notes Jessica as the 89th-ranked equestrian star in the world right now, but she, along with her family had big plans to make the French capital a stage to remember.

In Tokyo, most athletes couldn’t celebrate their performances and victories with the COVID-19 pandemic causing havoc across the globe. To make up for it, Bruce Springsteen was poised to support his daughter at the Olympics had Jessica made the team. “I was like, oh my gosh, I would love to go to another Olympics and be able to share that with my family,” Jessica said about how the Springsteens are bracing up for the rumble in Paris, but alas, not everything goes according to plan.
With Springsteen having made it clear that she will pursue her dreams no matter what, it remains to be seen if she can overcome the latest pothole on the road and go on to achieve her goals with resolute determination.
