The incident was reported by Racing.Com. The disease has claimed the lives of over 10 horses in no time in three separate places in Victoria. Nea Clark, owner of Kyark Thoroughbreds in Victoria, has lost two of her yearlings in the last few weeks, and some others are displaying the symptoms of the disease. She has also confirmed that the disease does not seem to be communicable, as one of her broodmares does not have any such illness or even the symptoms of the disease. It’s only hitting the young ones.

Talking about the conditions, she stated, “It only seems to be hitting our yearlings, our rising two-year-olds,” and she further added, “We had one mare present with symptoms, but she got over it in 24 hours.” The illness has also been devastating financially. Clark said, “Financially, it’s ruined us”, adding, “I’m sitting here trying to work out how I’m going to buy feed when I’ve got to pay $20,000 in vet bills”

She has intimated the authorities of Agriculture Victoria after her first yearling passed away last month under mysterious conditions. In the preliminary tests conducted, there were no signs of any toxic substance ingestion. Doctors are trying their best to uncover the causes.

Investigating the Unknown Equestrian Disease

In a race against time, veterinarian Dr. Graeme Cooke spearheads the investigation into the mysterious illness. He is also the veterinarian of Clark’s horses and henceforth took no time to examine the case. Conducting thorough examinations and preliminary tests, Dr. Cooke aims to identify the root cause behind this devastating outbreak. Thus far, the absence of clear indications and the lack of toxic substance ingestion have deepened the perplexity surrounding the disease.
