The volunteers came to the rescue of the horses after their caretaker fell prey to an injury and could not look after them.
In the tumultuous journey of the equestrian world, this development unfolded when allegations of animal abuse were made against a veterinarian in Gage County, Nebraska. The horses under his care were subsequently rescued and relocated to an equestrian rescue center. Later, the caretaker of the center sustained a fateful injury, and everything else followed.

This group of people had to take charge after Lin Guyton, who owns the Epona Horse Rescue, where the horses were relocated, met with an accident and was shifted to the hospital. Talking about the horses, Jennifer Burback, a volunteer at Epona, stated, “They have improved tremendously.“ She further added, “Most of them have gained over a hundred pounds.”
Guyton is also eager to recover as soon as possible, as it has been a tough time for her to be away from the horses for so long. Talking about which, she expressed her constant concern for the horses and her frustration at being in the rehab center and not around the equines. However, she also added that she is pleased to know that there is someone for the horses, and they are being taken good care of. Also, the volunteers are keeping her updated on the situation, as she receives pictures from the rescue center regularly. But now the question arises: how did it all start?

The incident that triggered the chain of events
On July 29th, there were reports that horses were dying in Gage County due to negligence and ill treatment. This came to the attention of the locals, and without further ado, it was escalated to the authorities. After the incident came to light, the vet cum owner of the place said that it was happening due to a toxic batch of hay that she had received. However, a veterinarian who was also a resident of the county said that this was an ongoing issue, not an isolated incident.

She also added that she noticed the horses were malnourished and emaciated. She also had the images of these poor creatures before this “hay” thing was brought in as a defense. The vet further mentioned that the horses had no access to adequate food or water for weeks and were also devoid of shelter, being kept in a gravel parking lot. However, the owner had denied these allegations, and an investigation was conducted into the matter.
