This year’s Kentucky Derby is rapidly approaching. With only weeks left to one of the most notable equestrian events in the USA, fans are waiting to witness the best with their friends and family. The Derby is getting ready to feature the Thunder Over Louisville as the opening event of the festival. Crews are unpacking boxes, assembling the fences, and leaving no stones unturned to ensure safety.

Yahoo reported that a huge pre-derby arrangement is going on. Notably, it’s a community event, and community is exactly what Louisville needs. However, the viewers should keep certain points in mind before going to watch the Thunder Over Louisville event.

Since its inception in 1875, the Derby has been a popular event bringing people together. In fact, it has been providing spine-chilling excitement as well as entertainment, along with featuring talents. Likewise, the 2023 event is no exception to that. While equines and their riders are honing their skills on the training ground, the queen has been crowned and the festivities are well on their way.

A report from Yahoo stated that the Festival is all set to kick start with fireworks and an air show. Reportedly, hundreds of thousands of people will crowd both sides of the waterfront on April 22, 2023, to witness the exquisite Thunder Over Louisville event. Moreover, as per the news, the drivers have to avoid the Clark Memorial Bridge, as to will be closed on both days. However, the theme of the 149th Derby year is, “Through the Decades.”

Evidently, fireworks have always been a part of the festival since the 1960s. And the first Thunder was held downtown over the Ohio River in 1991. “It’s our job now to help bring the community back together,” stated producer Wayne Hettinger. Continuing his statement, Catie Nelson, Waterfront Park’s events director added, “People find comfort in tradition, so it’s definitely something that brings the community together and we look forward to welcoming thousands of people to Waterfront Park.”

Crews have already started setting up the dumpsters, and all other important porta pots at the Great Lawn at Waterfront Park. Fans who want to avoid the massive crowd, which went up to 600,000 attendance earlier, can watch the fireworks and air show from 12 places. An event like this has been unifying communities and generations for years. Hopefully, the tradition will remain intact with the spark of the fireworks.
