Horse racing events are world-famous. In 2023, another event unfolded where the Chiefswood Stables witnessed a momentous feat by Touch’n Ride. The equine followed in the footprints of its half-brother Neepawa, who clinched its second Breeders’ Stakes victory in the Canadian Triple Crown at Woodbine.

The horse racing commences in the 1 1/2-mile turf event. The Paramount Prince led the charge, challenging longshot Hemlo Gold through swift fractions. Touch’n Ride strategically positioned itself in fourth on the backstretch, while Elysian Field loomed three-wide in fifth, setting the stage for a gripping showdown. According to DRF News, as the race progressed, Touch’n Ride ($10.20) patiently awaited its moment. Elysian Field surged into the lead, initiating a nail-biting duel with the Woodbine Oaks champion. In the final stretch, Elysian Field attempted strategic maneuvers, herding Touch’n Ride off course. However, the seasoned steed prevailed by a nose, claiming victory in 2:27.56.

Along similar lines, echoes of victory took place when Sahin Civaci, on Elysian Field, lodged a claim of foul against jockey Kazushi Kimura and Touch’n Ride. The stewards, however, dismissed the claim, solidifying Touch’n Ride’s triumph. Chiefswood Stables, having tasted Breeders’ success with Neepawa in 2018, reaped a substantial purse of $240,000. Layne Giliforte, the winning trainer, expressed confidence in Touch’n Ride, emphasizing the strategic planning that had gone into this victory.

Forever Dixie in Horse racing showcases encore performance

Twowaycrossing, an underdog at 51-1 odds, secured third place, injecting an element of unpredictability into the race. Meanwhile, reigning Canadian champion Philip My Dear finished in fourth, showcasing the competitiveness of the 14-horse field of Canadian-bred 3-year-olds.

In a parallel narrative, Forever Dixie stole the spotlight in the $125,750 Ontario Damsel. Trained by Mark Case and ridden by Patrick Husbands, Forever Dixie covered 1 1/16 miles on Tapeta in 1:42.96, clinching her first stakes success. The daughter of Quality Road, Forever Dixie, earned $75,000 for owner John Oxley, adding another layer to the day’s triumphs. In a field of 3-year-old fillies, she outperformed her stablemate, Solo Album, by 3 1/4 lengths, with Love to Shop finishing another 3 1/4 lengths back in third.
