Growing up in one of the world’s wealthiest families definitely has its perks, and Jennifer Gates acknowledges the privilege, crediting her successful vocation to her parents – Bill Gates and Melinda Gates. From being an accomplished equestrian to pursuing her love for medicine, Jenn has been making waves in every field she has set foot in. While her interest in horse riding was piqued when she was just a 6-year-old kid, her passion for medical science was first sparked by her parents’ impromptu dinner table conversation.

In 2020, Jenn appeared in an interview with Sidelines Magazine, where she talked about her aspirations and various nooks and crannies of her medical profession. Interestingly, she also revealed that her decision to pursue medicine was inspired by her parents’ passion for “making the world a better place”.

In her talk with Sidelines Magazine, Jenn shared her perspective on using her affluence to reform the world. Now, she is doing exactly that by pursuing her degree in medicine. Pulling off the curtains from her childhood aspirations of becoming a doctor, the equestrian stated, “I grew up hearing about children’s mortality at the dinner table, about polio, about the HIV/AIDS epidemic”.

She further expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards her parents by adding, “They’ve always had my back…when I was younger, they told me to pursue whatever it was I was interested in, whether it was math or science or reading, or writing. I always felt like I really had a good foundation with them believing in me and being willing to support me in any of my pursuits”.

More so, while growing up, she saw her parents indulging in noble causes to support a series of global healthcare challenges. Nonetheless, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation contributed more than $50 billion to global health and development, U.S. education, and other causes to date, including $355 million to fight COVID-19. Appreciating her parents’ kind gestures of going above and beyond to help society, the equestrian asserted, “

I think that’s really cool, and it has definitely rubbed off on me as I find my way towards my own passions”.

Interestingly, after completing her graduation from Stanford University in 2018, Jenn has now completed her alma mater in medical studies from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City. More so, she presently works as a Vice President of Sales and Marketing Contraceptive Business at CooperSurgical Inc. She indeed made the best out of all the opportunities that came her way. First the world-renowned equestrian and then a staunch medical professional.
