Tyson, a 4-year-old Roan colt and son of Tapit, has emerged as the fan favorite this season. With an impressive track record and a string of wins under his belt, Tyson has captured the hearts of racing enthusiasts. Its exceptional speed and agility make it a formidable contender among the five in the upcoming Seagram Cup. Tyson will run 1 1/16 miles at Woodbine on July 29 for the grand prize of $175,000.
Tyson trains under Canadian trainer and Hall of Famer Josie Carroll. She believes that Tyson is destined for greatness and can rival the top-ranking horses in racing. The Seagram Cup will be Tyson’s second graded racing event after his splendid performance in the first one.

Tyson made history on July 1 by beating the immensely talented Treason in the 1 1/8-mile Dominion Day Stakes. He pulled ahead of all competitors and finished the race in 1:48.32. Ever since Tyson debuted in March 2022 under trainer Todd Pletcher, he has shown potential. His first race was at Gulfstream Park, where he earned a victory over six experienced horses. Thereafter, he came under the tutelage of Carroll to start preparing for competition against 4-year-olds. He took part in the Eclipse Stakes (G2) on June 4 and also found a place in the winner’s circle at the third position. Tyson has so far earned $145,972 from just four starts under Carroll.
After the Dominion Day Stakes, John Sikura, who owns and bred Tyson as part of his stake in the Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings Inc., was pleased with his performance. He spoke to Blood Horse.com, saying, “he finished with authority and beat a very good horse…we’re looking forward to this weekend to see if he can repeat that performance”. Not many had faith in Tyson as a yearling. Sikura had also planned to sell him off, but fate had other plans.

Tyson triumphs amidst pedigree speculations
Tyson is the first sprinter born out of ‘Honouring’. But he is a distant relative to several Tapit champions, such as Greatest Honour and Sweet as Pie. Tyson’s half-sister, Modeling, is the mother of Arcangelo, who won the prestigious Belmont Stakes (G1) this year. Still, no one was interested when Sikura tried to sell him off at the 2020 Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale at a moderate price of $250,000.

Now with the Dominion Day win, he will enter the Seagram Cup. Sikura has even hinted that Tyson might also compete in International events abroad. But he will take things slowly and match the pace of his champion horse. Sikura believes Tyson will live up to his name and earn similar fame as the boxing legend!
