The Pan American Games 2023 opened with an amazing ceremony at Santiago, Chile. Americas’ biggest athletic event is touted to take place from October 20–November 5, 2023. With 6909 contestants from 41 nations across the globe, the athletes will compete in a range of sporting events. In the equestrian discipline, events of dressage, eventing, and jumping are scheduled to take place. With almost 150 participants expected to compete, the game promises cutthroat competition. But it looks like the formidable rival of the US dressage team was all set to face it head on!

With impressive performances from every combination, the U.S. dressage team rose to the challenge of winning gold at the Pan American Games, finishing with a team total of 450.670. Canada won bronze with a score of 431.937, while Brazil finished with a silver medal of 443.343. Leading to a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Pan American Games are important for every country to showcase their sporting mettle. With this in mind, the Canadian dressage team has secured their spot in the upcoming Olympics. With a bronze medal in their hands and smiles on their faces, the team aims to give it their all. But who are the mysterious gals on the Canadian dressage team?

Canada set a historic benchmark for their dressage team clinching an Olympic spot

The Canadian dressage team consists of hardworking equestrian athletes. At Santiago 2023, Canada was represented by the ‘Fabulous Four’. These were none other than Beatrice Boucher, Camille Carier Bergeron, Mathilde Blais Tetreault, and Naima Moreira Laliberte. The video shared by the CBC Olympics showcased the jubilant team. The ladies were one proud team to have qualified “for the Olympics.”

The official account of CBC Olympics captioned the video, “Olympic spot secured Beatrice Boucher, Camille Carier Bergeron, Mathilde Blais Tetreault, Naima Moreira Laliberte won bronze in team dressage at #Santiago2023, this secured them a spot at #Paris2024 @Equestrian_Can,”. But that was not all. In the video, the team was delighted to share their views and expressed gratitude towards their country. They said, “We qualified Canada for the Olympics. We did our job. We’re super happy about all our rides. The horses were amazing. Everybody showed up to work…” Having said that, what does it mean for the teammates to have reached the spot?

The Canadian dressage team aims high

The video shared is a testament to the dedication the Canadian team showed. Their routine practice sessions, their synergy with their horses are just some of their recipes for success. Upon being asked what it means for Canada, they had a simple yet bold answer. “Olympics.” The team was seen congratulating their own country. They said, “I hope everybody at home is very grateful… Thank you everyone for their support, seriously. It’s so appreciative. Got so many messages. The support is huge. We were so thankful, really. Honestly, people from home are part of this team, and I wanna say how grateful we are to all of them. Thank you so much… Thank you, Canada.”

For the team members, the saying “age is just a number” fits perfectly well. Beatrice Boucher, riding Summerwood’s Limei, is a 10-year-old from Saint-Dominique. Following her is 13-year-old Mathilde Blais Tétreault, riding Fedor. The other two ladies, Naima Moreira Laliberté and Camille Carier-Bergeron, are aged 16 and 15, respectively. As they qualify for the Paris Olympics, the Canadian dressage team needs more strength to beat the US team. Who do you think can ace the spot at the Olympics?
