The world of sports never ceases to bring surprises, and its allure is what captivates everyone, from a young child to an old person. Equestrian, the sport graced by greats like Isabell Werth, Hiroshi Hoketsu, Luiza Almeida, etc. has now found its charm spread to a 5-year-old British girl. Ina historic moment, made possible by the British Riding Club, this five-year-old girl became the youngest-ever rider to compete at a national championship.
Henrietta Henton and her horse Winneydene Countryman recently participated in the winter novice championship. She thus became the youngest ever rider to do so. The pair (Henton and her horse) had a majestic time during the equestrian event.

Henrietta Henton’s mother Laura Henton spoke to Horse & Hound, “We’re very lucky to have Frank; they’ve got a really good bond together”, talking about her horse Winneydene Countryman, whose nickname is Frank. Laura Henton continued, “They work hard on their dressage and jumping, and go hacking and generally have fun.”

It was strange to observe that the mother of a five-year-old was so chill and proud about her daughter taking up a sport that possesses one of the highest risks ever. Either the rider or the horse or sometimes both often end up injured. Such as British para rider Izzy Palmer who was left unconscious after suffering a freak accident once.

But Laura Henton doesn’t bother enough and instead aims for her daughter Henrietta Henton to compete with British dressage once she is old enough. At the present, Henrietta Henton and Frank have qualified to represent the Saxon Dressage Group and the British Riding Club area nine at Arena, UK. Her trainer Sarah Stewart, who Laura Henton calls, “absolutely fantastic”, was also proud of her youngest prodigy’s exploits. She especially is inspirational for the five-year-old.

What’s more daunting is that Henrietta Henton first sat atop a horse at age 1, and by age 3, she rode a Shetland pony. She has never looked back since. They have earned their ticket to the Caron Roberts Equestrian at the intro level, and are soon to compete there.
