We all are aware of Prince Harry’s rugby prowess and his love for athleticism. The Duke of Sussex has played the sport since his schooldays and trained as an Assistant Development officer with the Rugby Football Union (RFU). The 38-year-old was also the patron of the Rugby Football Union all-schools program in 2013 and contributed to the Rugby World Cup held two years later in 2015.

However, apart from rugby, the prince was recently seen playing polo on the grounds of Singapore. The Dutch of Sussex played for the annual cup held every year by a charity foundation co-owned by the Prince himself. The Duke of Sussex showed some incredible equestrian skills on the ground alongside his close friend and Polo companion.

The Duke of Sussex founds passion in equestrian sports

The royals have joined the polo Grounds. Recently, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, was seen playing polo and showing his philanthropic side. On August 12, the Prince competed in the annual Sentebale Polo Cup on the grounds of Singapore. The match was played to raise funds for a charity foundation, Sentebale that works towards supporting children and the young people in the Southern part of Africa.

According to Yahoo News, apart from the Duke of Sussex, who played for the Royal Salute Sentebale team, Argentinian actor and polo player Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Figueras was also seen at the Singapore club. The polo player played against his close friend the Duke as captain of the Singapore Polo Club. Following this, after the staunch efforts from both the Duke and Figueras, the match ended in a tie with a final score of 7-7. After the game, the Royal Sentebale Salute team posted a group photo of the polo team on Twitter with the caption. “What a day! The Duke of Sussex and Nacho Figueras battled it out on opposing teams in this year’s Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup, with the final score leaving at 7-7 with honors shared”

The Sentebale Foundation works towards uplifting the South African people from inequality, poverty, and health related issues, including COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, and was co-founded by the Duke of Sussex in 2006. And till now, this equestrian event, which was first held in Barbados in 2010, has raised over $14 million for the cause. The foundation was inspired by Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Prince Harry honors his mother

On August 25, 2022, Prince Harry, with his incredible performance, won the annual Sentebale Polo Cup held in Aspen. After his win in an after-match dinner, the Duke honored his late mother on her 25th Anniversary. Princess Diana, who was known as the ‘Queen of the People’s Hearts,’ was an philanthropist who worked towards supporting and destigmatizing those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

As Prince Harry, who with his friend Prince Seeiso founded this charitable foundation to honor their mothers, stated, “Next week is my mother’s death anniversary. I hope we can remember my mother’s legacy by recommitting to those that we serve, whoever and wherever they may be. For Senebale, our commitment is to end HIV.”
