Horses are among the most intelligent creatures on earth. While many are taught to compete in equestrian races, others are allowed to graze freely. Though the affection for horses is divided, with some individuals endangering their lives, it was demonstrated that there are others who still appreciate animals.

In a recent incident in which a horse named Ernie became trapped in mud, the horse was rescued by fire fighters rather than animal rescuers. What occurred after the firefighters rescued Ernie? What precautions were taken, and how were they implemented? This is a story to be remembered for all animal lovers!

While firemen are used to rescuing humans from burning buildings, rescuing a horse mired in mud was a new task. Ernie’s owner had summoned them, along with a veterinarian. As people do in quicksand, the horse was swallowed up by the muck. Not understanding the nature of the earth, the horse became so trapped that it couldn’t move its legs.

The rescue squad included members from both Exmouth and Torquay fire stations. They were able to rescue Ernie thanks to the assistance of the Clyst St George Fire Station’s urban search and rescue squad. On October 5th, a rescue effort took conducted along the River Teign near Netherton. A 4×4 vehicle was asked by the Firefighters to assist with the rescue.

The fire firefighters devised many ideas, but carrying them out was difficult due to Ernie’s movement in the muck. Finally, a drag-to-safety approach was used to draw him out. A representative for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said after the rescue, “We were able to pull the horse to safety using specialist animal rescue equipment.” The horse was able to walk back to his stable after being dragged out.

Compassion in Action: Firefighters’ Selfless Act Reflects Moral Duty to Aid Animals in Need

While there are numerous incidents of horse and animal abuse on a daily basis, there are still many people that follow the proper ideals. People with high morales, such as the fire fighters in this instance, who didn’t stop to aid the animal in need despite their work not being related to the current situation, demonstrate that when in need, one should help others, whether they be animals or humans. Respecting the lives of animals, who have the same right to life as humans, should be an intrinsic part of our morals.

While animals have excellent senses for detecting danger, they can also be the cause of blunders from time to time. As humans, we should assist them whenever possible because animals never wish harm to us and have frequently benefited humans. Many people may argue that we need more firemen, but the fact is that we need to become more like them rather than hoping for more of them.
