Not many days have passed since a tragic incident left the equestrian community heartbroken. This disastrous event occurred in the city of Corfu, Greece, when a tourist carriage horse collapsed in the middle of the road. The owner of the horse was charged with $33,000 for not following the permissible working guidelines for the carriage horses, and the investigation is still in the process.

The government is still dealing with this incident. However, amidst the reckoning of the Corfu incident, a new and even more brutal case of animal abuse unfolded in another city in the country. This case seems to be more terrifying than the one mentioned earlier.

The fateful incident was reported in Kissamos, the town of Chania, in Greece, where a horse lost his life as his owner left him tied in the heat without food or water supplies. Hellas Postsen was the first to report the incident. The owner left the poor creature tied in the middle of a field for several days without any shelter or anyone to take care of its basic needs. Neighbors of the owner reported the incident to the Panhellenic Federation, responsible for animals, the environment, and hunting.

Though the neighbors have been criticized for reporting the incident when the horse ceased to exist, the 26-year-old owner of the horse has been arrested for being responsible for the death of the helpless creature. In his statement, the owner told the Police officers he could not visit the horse due to some professional obligations.

What can be the outcomes?

The 5-year-old horse has been taken away from the scene by the veterinary officers, and a necropsy will be performed to find out what the horse has been through in the past few days. The owner can face some serious consequences for committing such a ruthless crime. He can be subjected to potential fines, imprisonment, or a combination of both penalties. The Greek government has some strict guidelines against the animal abuse in the country.
