A speeding horse is a sight to behold, but riding a horse is an even more exhilarating experience. However, as thrilling as it is, equestrian sport comes with high risks and can sometimes lead to fatal injuries. But if necessary precautions are taken, horse riding can be the perfect adrenaline rush with no harm caused. And a South American show jumping sensation has some tips.

Gabriela Reutter, a Chile-based show jumper, has made her name in the equestrian world with remarkable talent. Recently, the 27-year-old made a horse riding guidebook with the help of her trainer, focusing on riding safety. Highlighting the need for a good posture, she discouraged a common practice riders may indulge in. “What happens when you use your phone while riding? Inevitably, a poor posture is detrimental to your health and can lead to chronic pain,” Reutter explained.

Encouraging equestrian enthusiasts to ditch their phones while riding, she explained what the correct position of the body should be. “Correct posture includes weight on your heels without jamming, lower leg close and around your horse”, Reutter added. She further added that relaxed knees, a straight back and neck, and eyes in the forward direction also help.

Earlier in the video, the No.1 Chilean Show Jumper also explained the demerits of directing attention to one’s phone while riding. Reutter put forth a simple question – when a person is connected to their phone during a ride, how can they connect with their horse? Reutter passionately took up the task of spreading horse riding safety awareness after having spent an ample amount of time astride the animal.
