Nature Strip is a famous equestrian champion that competed in several of the world’s sublime horse racing events. He recorded 9 Group 1 wins including the 2021 The Everest, called the Most Expensive Turf Race on Earth. Two times, he was named Australian champion racehorse of the year, both in 2020 and in 2022.

He is a nine-year-old chestnut gelding trained by Chris Waller from Nicconi out of the Desert Sun mare Strikeline. He was a bursting power which made him win against his rivals and overtake them from behind. In September 2023, he retired as a champion who has recorded over nine group one races worth twenty million dollars. Nevertheless, he just amazed the crowd again.

Nature Strip’s equestrian debut garners attention amidst retirement

Recently, Kathy Ohara shared an intriguing Instagram post featuring Nature Strip. Her caption read, “Big Nature Strip had his debut 90cm competition at the @Sydney Showjumping Club Championships today. Thanks to @thmcdermott for taking over the reins while I’m off broken and doing a perfect round as usual! What a horse he is!!”

Legendary sprinter Nature Strip, is known for his incredible career including victories in the T J Smith Stakes (G1), and the King’s Stand Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot, has been retired by trainer Chris Waller and his connections. Waller made the announcement post the Concorde Stakes (G3) at Randwick, where Nature Strip showed a decline in form. Despite being in good condition, Waller highlighted a lack of usual spark during the race. With a record of 22 wins from 44 starts and over AU$21 million in prize money, the 9-year-old Nicconi gelding will enjoy retirement at Charlie Duckworth and jockey Kathy O’Hara’s property. As the post went, viral fans started appreciating him.

From sprinting sensation to versatile jumper

Among a multitude of comments, several stood out. One individual expressed awe: “Can’t believe how beautiful and calm he is! From world’s best sprinter to such a collected jumper… outstanding.” Another commenter empathetically wished for a swift recovery, stating, “He’s loving it. Please hurry to a good recovery.” Another praised Nature Strip’s adaptability and skill in his new pursuit: “He’s rocking it – what a star in his new career.”

The admiration continued with a comment acknowledging Nature Strip’s versatile talents, noting, “All-round athlete, excellent at anything. Love this! #lovethehorse.” Additionally, one remarked on the horse’s grace, saying, “He looks like a dream to ride.” Another admirer marveled at the horse’s beauty and apparent enjoyment, commenting, “Wow!
