The joy of being a parent for the first time is an unforgettable feeling, whose full extent can hardly be expressed in words. But in the later stages of life, when the kids are all grown up, the only feeling that stands next to parenthood is being a grandparent for the first time. Formerly married couple Bill Gates and Melinda Gates are currently at the latter stage and can barely contain their joy.

Jennifer Gates took to her Instagram last month, to share the unseen image of her first child, holding on to her mother. An equestrian herself, she brought her child into the world with her equestrian husband Nayel Nassar. Not only did it change their lives, but that day marked something special in Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda Gates’s life.

Bill Gates and Melinda Gates are at a loss for words

Bill Gates recently took to his Instagram to share an image of him holding his first grandchild and there is no way to mistake the sheer happiness on his face. He wrote the caption, “I can’t wait to watch you discover the world”. The baby was wearing a pink dress, while Gates was holding his grandchild’s fingers.

Melinda Gates too didn’t spare this momentous occasion to share her joy on social media. She took to her Instagram to write, “There is nothing quite like holding your first grandchild. It seems like just yesterday I was holding Jenn at this age. Now she has a baby of her own—and I am bursting with pride watching her and Nayel step into their new role as parents”.

Her words added a touch of nostalgia to the post. Melinda Gates was holding her grandchild the way she, or any mother, would be holding their own children. Her transformation from being a mother to a grandmother makes the proverbial ‘life completes a full circle’ true.

Raising their kids with the right values

Melinda and Bill Gates have raised their own children, all 3 of them, with a modicum of humility. They taught them to thrive to achieve greater things in life without entirely relying on their parents’ worth. Now that their family expands, those same teachings might very well be passed on to the newest member. Bill Gates even changed his outlook on his entire wealth, and decided to donate it all after his first grandchild was born. This was on top of what Bill and Melinda Gates had already donated to charitable causes in the past, which is in billions.

Despite all their efforts towards philanthropy, their children Jennifer, Phoebe, and Rory Gates have never felt excluded by any margin. They traveled around the world with their parents and saw their endeavors first-hand. Growing up with such valuable lessons in life, Jennifer Gates is sure to impart them to her first child. And surely Phoebe and Rory are to follow in the same footsteps.
