Unfortunately, this weekend’s much-anticipated Equestrian event Down Royal meeting was postponed owing to the weather. The two-day event, which included the renowned “Champion Chase”, was postponed due to wet parts on the course caused by the 25mm of rain that fell overnight. The decision, announced on Wednesday, has dismayed many who enjoy and take part in auto races.

The rain may have soaked the course, but it certainly couldn’t dampen our enthusiasm! The cancellation of the Down Royal meeting is only a setback, not a complete loss. The rescheduled competition in November still has the Champion Chase and top horses, so fans won’t be disappointed.

Unpredictable weather dampened the Down Royal event, originally set to commence on Friday and culminate with the Champion Chase on Saturday. In light of “significant amounts of water lying in some areas” of the track after Tuesday night’s 25mm downpour, Clerk of the Course Tracey O’Meara made the difficult decision to postpone the races.
The unexpected cancellation of this weekend’s event shocked many people in the racing community, including spectators, trainers, and jockeys as reported by BBC Sport on 1st Nov. The organizers have rescheduled the event for November 10 and 11. The good news for those who have purchased tickets is that they will be honored for the rescheduled performances. Those who are unable to make it on the new dates will get a full refund.

The delay threw a pall over the racing community, which was looking forward to the Champion Chase. Gordon Elliott’s Gerri Colombe and Minella Indo, a multiple-time Gold Cup winner under Elliott’s training, were notable candidates. The sadness was apparent among trainers, jockeys, and spectators, but the tenacity of the racing community triumphed, with many looking forward to the rescheduled event in November.
