3-year-old filly Speirling Beag is prepared to take on American soil in a race that holds the promise of a new beginning because she has her sights set on redemption. According to Pualick Report, Beag’s spirited journey continues as she readies herself for the $100,000 Searching at Laurel Park. Born from the lineage of the illustrious Mastercraftsman, a stallion with a resplendent history of Group 1 triumphs in the European circuit, she carries a legacy of excellence. Her victory in the 1 1/8-mile Eyrefield (G3) at Leopardstown was a moment of glory, a testament to her prowess.

Guiding Speirling Beag’s odyssey is Graham Motion, a maestro renowned for sculpting champions out of raw potential. Horses and riders are transformed into a symphony on the track under Motion’s guidance and intuition. He offers perspective on her previous race, shedding light on her true potential for success in the future. “We got her in the spring and the idea was to run her in the Belmont Oaks. Actually, she probably didn’t run a bad race. She was only beaten [2 ¾] lengths for it all,” Motion said.

He continued, “I didn’t want to go back to the next race at Saratoga, so this was the logical option. Hopefully she’ll find it a little softer spot”. For its 12th running, The Searching, a race specifically for 3-year-old fillies, has undergone changes.

The Searching and it’s compelling contenders

Reimagined as a mile and a sixteenth challenge, it stands as the first of two stakes on a dynamic 10-race card. The allure of the turf, the camaraderie of enthusiasts, and the energy in the air define the equestrian experience. Among the ensemble, Apple Picker shines as a compelling contender. This filly’s journey, owned by Michael Dubb and trained by Brittany Russell, is a tale of maturation and selection, much like that of her namesake.
