“Absolutely Freaking Out.”: Equestrian World in Shambles as Photos of Ailing Horse Surface

Horses are beautiful creatures absolutely adored by the equestrian community, and rightly so. For centuries, humans and horses have been comrades. However, not every horse owner is responsible and caring towards their equine counterparts. Sometimes, humans’ cruelty towards these equine wonders is genuinely horrific. There have been some heart-wrenching stories of horse abuse that are indeed the stuff of nightmares.

Lately, in a sad news that was circulating, an adorable pinto horse was abandoned on the roadside alone in a fatigued state, left to die. Luckily, the horse was rescued by a charity. Similarly, a terrible picture of an abused horse is circulating on a social media platform, an appropriate example of the maltreatment our four-legged friends suffer through.

Well wisher makes an emotional plea to the community

Recently, a good samaritan posted a sorrowful sight in a subreddit with the name r/Equestrian. The picture showed a brown horse that was completely emaciated, neglected, and seemed to be on the verge of dying. The entire ribcage of the poor creature was visible, and he was, unfortunately, a bag of bones. The original poster, a woman, made a heartfelt request to the community, asking for help.

In the caption, along with the photo, she wrote, “My neighbor has a horse. My mother and I used to go feed him every day but we moved. We came to visit and this is how he looks. I’m so upset and concerned.” It was clear from the photo that the horse, which the woman pegged to be 15-20 years old, was being starved by its derelict owner. The concerned woman also revealed that upon inquiry from its owner, she was informed that the vet had given a clean bill of health to the mount.

The worried female, however, was not convinced by this claim and revealed that the horse was in better health before she and her mother left. To stay healthy, a horse needs to consume about 1.5 to 2% of its body weight in feed, an amount that this particular animal was clearly not getting. The Reddit user chickyfila revealed her plans to report the horse owner and asked for advice regarding the same.

Equestrian community outraged at the mistreatment

When the saddening photos of the horse started circulating, people were furious, and someone commented, “That is not “perfectly fine” and no vet in their right mind would say so. That is an emaciated, very much in danger of starving to death, horse.” The commentator also suggested that the poster should contact animal control, to which the woman replied, “Im 100% going to. I’m absolutely freaking out.” Someone else reflected a similar sentiment in their comment, and said, “Call the police or animal control asap”.

A seething member of the equestrian community vehemently spoke out against the owner of the horse, and said, “This is horrible, and absolutely neglect! This poor baby looks like he has a body score of 1, which is the lowest rating you can get (1 being the skinniest 5 being obese).” The commentator also predicted that the horse could meet a sad demise if quick action was not taken. Hopefully, the woman will be able to get the help this exploited creature desperately needs.
