Recently, 14-year-old Irish rider Sophia Doheny accomplished an exceptional feat, firmly engraving her name in the history of equestrian sports. Riding on her pony Enrico in 2023’s Grand Prix, Doheny was the youngest equestrian to compete in the event. Giving it her all at Le Mans on 15th April, the young equestrian amazed thousands of fans with her spectacular performance.

This was the first Grand Prix for the young rider who trained for this event with two horses, Enrico and Batiqar, at Pamfou Dressage. In a recent Instagram post after the event, Doheny finally announced the results of her thrilling performance at the Grand Prix.

Doheny captioned her celebratory post, “Enrico and I placed 5th in the Pro-Elite Grand Prix at the national show at Le Mans yesterday with just over 64%. As reported by Eurodressage, Doheny secured 64.036%. But there is more.


In her recent Instagram story, while she stated that she was happy at contesting in her first Grand Prix in France, she also admitted that there was “a big mistake in the walk”, during the contest. Further, she thanked Pamfou Dressage, the equestrian center where she had trained for the huge contest. Pampering her horse Enrico by giving him a carrot after this achievement, Doheny was over the moon. She also announced another fantastic achievement to thousands of fans and revealed her future plans.

Through her Instagram story, she related that riding on Batiqar, she had

“won the advanced medium class which was the FEI Junior Test team.” Batiqar is a 17 years old gelded horse that Doheny obtained from EuroDressage’s Equimarket. Doheny also shared an Instagram post where she told fans proudly that Batiqar had received 69% along with an international score, adding that he won both the advanced medium/FEI junior tests. But there is more.

In an earlier Instagram post that Doheny had shared before the Grand Prix, the young equestrian had hinted at her future plans. She captioned this post, “So excited to see everyone again…then continuing an amazing experience by staying in france for a summer of training and horses around Europe”, implying how she was excited about the future with her horses.
