Despite being an avid screen user and a technology buff himself, he never tried to put his daughter, Jennifer Gates, in his shoes. Instead, he gave her the freedom to spread her horizon and area of interest herself.

Once, while talking with Reuters, Bill Gates opened up about the strict screen routine Jennifer used to have during her childhood. Bill Gates revealed the motive he had behind the less screen time he provided to his daughter. In this article, let us have a look at what Bill said about his strict parenting in 2007. 

Bill Gates allowed his daughter’s mind to bloom with minimal screen time 

Screen time is one of the biggest distractions for people in the world nowadays. Tons of different kinds of social media and apps have allowed the mind to bind itself in a never-ending loop. However, Gates gave this interview in 2007, and Jennifer is a 90s kid, who didn’t have as much distraction as now. Despite all that, Gates had a strict routine for his daughter, so that she can focus on the more important things.

While talking with Reuters in 2007, Gates revealed that, “He and his wife Melinda decided to set a limit of 45 minutes a day of total screen time for games and an hour a day on weekends, plus what time she needs for homework.” Moreover, Gates also revealed that he used to control the websites that she used. Furthermore, he also explained the reason for controlling the websites Jennifer used.

He said, “Up to some age, to be determined, it’s very appropriate for a parent to get a sense of what they’re seeing out there and be able to have conversations about it.” Although he had some strict rules, it seems it was all for Jennifer’s good. He wasn’t just strict all the time, but he was also an extremely supportive parent to his children. A hefty sum to sponsor his daughter’s career

It dates back to the time when Jennifer Gates was a fifteen-year-old, and wanted to explore her passion for equestrian riding. As Bill got to know about the interest of his daughter, he rented a mansion in Florida. As mentioned by Daily Mail in 2012, he managed a full-facility mansion with eight bedrooms and equestrian facilities. The giant place was spread over 7,300 sq. ft. and cost him $1 million. 

In addition to that, he also provided her with four horses and corresponding trainers with them. Certainly, it didn’t end there. Further, he arranged several things, including private jets for the family to commute to Florida. He didn’t leave even an inch of scarcity to provide everything when she needed it to follow her passion.

Watching these instances, one can easily tell that Bill gates has tried his best to provide top-notch life for his children. Whether it is in their upbringing or in giving them a quality of life. However, he was strict when he needed to be, and vice versa.
