3-year-old thoroughbred Mage has reached the pinnacle of success with 3 significant wins in his career. His sire was the U.S. champion two-year-old in 2017 who also won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile as a maiden. On 22nd July 2023, Mage was defeated by Geaux Rocket Ride, who won $1 million for his victory.
Mage did not have a very good start in equestrian sports, he won very few matches but he always assured a well run.

The chestnut colt bred won the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 6, 2023. But the Derby winner could not save his equestrian victory in Haskell stakes. However, Mage did an electrifying performance in the Championship. On the other side, Rocket Ride’s trainers were celebrating their victory.

Smith expressed his delight and said, “It was a race that we really wanted.” They even defeated the Arabian Knight favorite and denied Bob Baffert’s third Haskell victory. In this Saturday’s race, Rocket Ride was not in the first position from the start but he made it up in the final eight mile and won by a 1 3/4-length score beating the Kentucky winner.

According to the Horse Racing Nation, after Mage was brought back to Florida in the Grade 1 race, he could not win it over Forte on 1st April. He tried again in the Haskell race, but secured the second position. His trainer Gustavo Delgado announced Mage’s entry to Haskell and said, “After much consideration and planning Mage’s summer goal of getting to the Grade I Travers, we have decided to have a prep run in the Grade I Haskell this weekend.” Mage did not win the race, but he left a good impact on the spectators. He is a colt who never had a good start but in the end, fits in well.

A little equestrian history about Mage

The mage competed in the Sterling Racing & Thoroughbreds but the mage finished the race in fourth position due to lack of expertise. According to the Horse Racing Nation, most of the time Mage was defeated because of his lack of pace. A few weeks later, Mage was brought to Florida Derby (G1) and met Forte. Mage was about to start his third career race and the purchase price ‘of $290,000’ was more than good. However, he could not win the match but he ran big and secured the second position.
