Human beings can sometimes be absolutely tremendous in their perseverance. Rarely the will of any other living being on this earth matches that of us humans. With this will and the addition of some much-needed hard work, human civilization has achieved things in all walks of life, things one didn’t think could ever be possible.
A recent addition to this list of achievements has come in the arena of cycling. A team of cyclists has, earlier this year, broken the Guinness World Record, and you’d be surprised to know the amazing operation they carried out to achieve this novel, entertaining, and astonishing feat.

Last month, Pubity posted an update on its official Instagram breaking the news that a team including the cyclists Florent Arnaud, Maxime Brugère, Franck Delorme, Nicolas Meunier, and Jean Roule has broken a world record for the largest GPS drawing by a bicycle team who rode around a velociraptor-shaped track 1,025km long, which equals a whopping 636 miles. The entire track which formed the shape of a dinosaur took them 43 hours and 47 minutes to complete.

The entire trip was documented by Strava, which is a running and riding GPS. The pathway that the cyclists rode took them almost a year to map out. The route was completed by the riders in November 2022, but the World Record was only announced this year. This wonderful record-breaking journey commenced in the Meillard in the Allier region in central France. During their 6 days of cycling, the team crossed many countries, including Cher, Saone-et-Loire, Indre, Nievre, Creuse, and Puy-de-Dome. The team has attempted and successfully completed other dinosaur figures previously, such as a T-Rex, in 2020, then a diplodocus in 2021.
Post that, they discovered that there actually existed a Guinness World Record for the longest GPS cycling trip which was a 761-kilometer (472 miles) long heart that was drawn in Egypt in the year 2018. The cyclists then started the journey to defeat this record and make one of their own. They chose the figure of a Velociraptor because “Velo” means bicycle in French and also because dinosaurs are proof that even the toughest species aren’t immune to extinction. The team has also tried to spread a message about environmental safety to the masses.
A World Record with a side of education and awareness
One of the aims of this unique adventure was to spread awareness among the world about the rapid degradation of the environment and how cycling can actually contribute to its betterment. Brugère told Cycling Weekly, “Dinosaurs are proof that such strong species can quickly become extinct and that is what we are currently going through with the sixth mass extinction.” The team of cyclists also laid stress on how cycling can be a perfect solution to this problem.

Brugère added, “We are the main culprits of this environmental crisis, but also its main victims. As such, the future is in our hands and cycling is one of the best ways to contribute to change.” This group, in all their excursions, has made its core message clear. They believe that cycling can become a sustainable transportation in the coming future, a transportation that will not kill the environment. The group, according to Daily Mail, revealed, “Most of us are daily bike commuters, environmentally engaged, who rarely use a car. We use our bikes for traveling also.”

Their philosophy is a sound one, as not only is cycling a way to travel, but it is also good for health, both physical and mental. Using cycling as a mode of transportation, at least for smaller distances, will only make this world a better place to live in.
