Imagine being the first person from a country to debut at the Olympics in a particular event. It’s a feat worthy of the history books, right? That’s precisely what Victor Montalvo has done. He is the first person from America to qualify for breakdancing at the Paris Olympics. He achieved the feat in style after winning the 2023 World Championship title.

Victor Montlov, 30, is considered one of the best breakdancers in the world. He has two WDSF-breaking World Championships titles to his name, claiming them in 2021 and 2023, respectively. But where did it all start? From Victor’s home itself. He is the son of Victor Bermudez, a former b-boy who is credited for popularizing breaking in Mexico back in the 80s. Information on his mother is scarce, but according to Victor, she is from Juarez, Mexico. Victor learned his first dance moves from his father and his uncle Hector but will carve his legacy alone. Victor and his cousin Static trained for years to refine their moves.

Realizing he wanted to make a career in breakdancing, he decided to drop out of high school. At the time, his father stood as a rock beside him, supporting his decision and giving him the confidence to carry on.

“My dad instilled in me was to be the best at what I do. It doesn’t matter what I do. If it’s a doctor, even a janitor, a cook, or a mathematician, it doesn’t matter. He just told me to make sure you’re the best at what you do.”

His father’s unrelenting belief in Victor will push him to test his limits and become the breakdancing legend he is today. With two Red Bull BC One and World Games champion titles under his belt, he has clearly lived up to his father’s belief. But another person has stood strong with Victor as well.

Who is Victor Montalvo’s wife, Kateryna Pavlenko?

Victor Montalvo is married to Kateryna Pavlenko, a B-Girl born and raised in Ukraine. Like Victor, Kateryna Pavlenko is also a world-leading break dancer. But the similarity doesn’t end here. Similar to Victory, Kate has also secured a seat at the breaking event in Paris. She will be representing Ukraine in the debut breaking competition at the summer events.
