Since breakdance was incorporated in the Paris Olympics, Australian breakdancer Raygun instantly became famous. Rachel Gunn had been creating quite the ripples with her unique dancing moves in the Olympics. Her floor wriggle and kangaroo hop made her an overnight sensation. Now, trying to copy her unconventional dance routine, a Raygun-themed musical was in the works. Unfortunately, a single legal notice has now got the show canceled. 

C omedian Steph Broadbridge was the creator of ‘Raygun the Musical’. The show in question had been promoted as a parody of Raygun’s journey to the Paris Olympics. In a hilarious turn of events, the musical, which was supposed to have its premiere in Sydney, reportedly contained some funny songs. ‘I’m Breaking Down’, and ‘I Would Have Won But I Pulled a Muscle’ were some of the songs in the musical. 

Raygun restricts performances to save her brand image

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as smoothly as the comedian had expected. With just hours left for the show, the legal team of Raygun contacted Broadbridge and asked her to cancel the show. They also mentioned that failing to do so would result in serious legal consequences. Interestingly, leading to the parody show, Broadbridge had earlier mentioned, I think it will be good for her brand, I don’t think it will be bad for her brand.”

On the contrary, an official statement was also released by Raygun’s management. The statement read that the team was, “committed to protecting her intellectual property and ensuring that her brand remains strong and respected.” They further stated that the team had its sincere respect in the efforts given by Broadbridge in developing the show. Unfortunately, they were bound to safeguard the integrity and creative rights of Raygun. Meanwhile, as the latest stance from her legal team created ripples, this is not the first time Raygun has been involved in a controversy

Raygun spun a drama over her retirement

Ravaged by the controversy and constant trolling surrounding her Olympic performance, Raygun claimed to be retiring from her sport. But while it was just a few days of the news getting circulated, the Australian breakdancer came up with yet another stunt. She came out and stated that she was not done with dancing. Appearing in an exclusive interview with The Project TV, Raygun mentioned that she never used the word ‘retire’.

Clarifying her stance on the entire retirement fiasco, the Australian breakdancer mentioned that her words were taken out of context. Instead, she mentioned that with the large amounts of troll coming her way, persisting with doing her work on a regular basis would be difficult. Blowing up the rumors, Raygun said, “I’m still going to be part of community jams, still dance, still break… I never used the word retire—I’m not retiring… You try and stop me; I’m not ever going to stop dancing.” Thus, with controversies following Raygun since the Olympics, it remains to be seen what happens next.
