When you make a slip-up on the grandest stage, the world rarely lets you forget about it. At least that’s what Australian b-girl Rachael Gun aka Raygun, has learnt. After her zero-point score at the Paris Olympics, the 37-year-old has been subjected to digs not from just the breakdancing community but from others too. However, her faith in her own capabilities remains unwavering.
In October, several statues of Raygun from Australia and the world supplied a lot of giggles. From the suburbs of Melbourne to the neighborhoods of Dallas, the occasion of Halloween sprouted a lot of meme-worthy content emulating the breakdancer who scored zero points at the Paris Olympics. And still, Gunn believes people still have a long way to go before matching up to her skills.

A recent Instagram post by Pubity from October 31 has revealed the latest challenge unveiled by Raygun. “Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachel Gunn, aka Raygun, has launched the ‘Raygun Challenge,’ ” reads the caption of the post. According to the social media update, Rachael Gunn has announced that she will award a prize of $10,000 to anyone who can beat her routine. Her confidence seems to stem from the fact that she is currently ranked the top break-dancing athlete in the world, according to the WDSF rankings.

Raygun has also made an official statement to highlight that she means business with her challenge. “I’ve heard some of you think you can do better than me. Let’s find out, shall we?” rings her stern stance on the matter. After Raygun’s arguably disastrous Paris campaign, she had to withstand a lot of jeers and sneers from the fans, but it looks like Gunn wants to give the critics a chance to prove their worth as well.
This unprecedented move by Raygun would probably underscore that she’s reached the threshold of her ignorance and instead now is looking to take the fight to the people who have mocked her display in the City of Love. Naturally, it was time she responded back to the trolling jibes.

Raygun’s Parisian performance has taken the lid off of creative thinking
Recalling the ordeal she had to go through after the 33rd Games, Rayun told The Project, “I was quite nervous being out in public because I just didn’t know what was safe, if anyone was going to recognize me, how they were going to respond to seeing me.” She claimed that things had been nerve-wracking. With that, she also noted that she wanted to take herself away from the spotlight to recuperate and get back on her feet. “It’s been a bit of a process to try and start dancing again. Like, that’s actually been tough,“ confessed the Ph.D holder.
But her trembling confidence didn’t stop the people from trying to wiggle out a chuckle from her situation. Long Island’s Stephanie DeMarr stunned her sister when she whipped out a Raygun-inspired costume for Halloween. “I thought it was such a funny idea, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the costume was,” DeMarr acknowledged. CNN announcer Brianna Keila also took a cue from the same page and even went on live TV to show off her costume.

And yet, Raygun’s attempts to cash in on her popularity have also hit rock bottom. NOVA host Ryan Fitzergald pleaded to Gunn to use her situation to make something out of it. “I don’t care what people say, you need to cash in on this. You need to monetise this, you do,” Raygun was told. However, an existing trademark filed by Raygun Limited in 2017 has nullified her attempts.
