Breakdancing marks the addition of a new era to the vibrant mosaic that is the Olympic Games. Leading this historic moment is Victor Montalvo. It is quite inspiring to follow Montalvo’s route from a rising enthusiast from the heart of Kissimmee, Florida, to an Olympic qualifier. When Montalvo was six years old, he was exposed to breakdancing, while listening to his father’s instruction and the pulsating sounds of Beat Street.

The 29-year-old, Montalvo, acknowledged the sport from his dad. He has also won two Red Bull BC championships, one in 2015 and another in 2022.  In the sport of breaking, Montalvo has solidified his status creating history by being the first American to qualify for the Olympics.

American breakdancer Montalvo is a phenomenal talent in the breakdancing industry who is poised to leave his mark on the Olympic stage. Memorizing his modest origins, Montalvo looks back with nostalgia, expressing, “My dad exposed me to breaking at the age of 6. He would put Beat Street on and I would imitate the dancers and my dad would show me a couple of moves.”

Igniting his passion, Montalvo is ready to demonstrate his artistic moves to a worldwide audience as the Paris 2024 Olympics approaches closer. He shares his lighting enthusiasm expressing, “I was recently in Paris, and I was on the boat going through the river, and I saw the breaking stage,” he mentioned. “I was like, ‘Wow, I’m going to be there next year. This is awesome.'” 

Great bonding tool for Victor and his father

Victor Montalvo is a strong force to open doors of success through his performance on and off the dance floor. Victor’s Dad is his biggest support system when challenges are faced in his emotional route and career. He added “… my dad was like, ‘No, if this makes him happy, let him do this.’ And once I started making money and I started winning, the rest of my family was like, ‘Okay, this is fine.'”

Even though it was an excellent opportunity for him and his father to interact, Montalvo recorded that at that stage he “wasn’t too serious” regarding breaking. As he is ready to represent the United States in the first-ever breaking event in the Olympics, Montalvo’s path offers hope and inspiration to the audience.
