As the 2024 Paris Olympics looms on the horizon, the entire focus is shifted to the ongoing World Qualification Tournament. The major reason for anticipation mounting across the tournament is that it is one of the largest boxing events for the Olympic Qualification, welcoming more than 600 boxers.
Among the top contenders, USA came up with five male boxers inside the ring: Jamal Talley, Omari Jones, Robby Rahim Gonzales, Roscoe Hill, and Emilio Garcia. Despite having five chances to punch tickets to the upcoming Paris Olympics, the USA’s hopes are crushed by the top four. However, in the middle of disappointment, one of the boxing sensations passed with flying colors.

After a slow start from the USA’s roster on the final day of the 2024 Olympic Games World Qualifying Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Omari Jones emerged as a force that needs to be reckoned with. Soon after coming up in the boxing ring, the 2021 World Championships silver medalist started dominating the Indian opponent boxer Nishant Dev at the finals by 4-1.
In the exclusive interview with USA Boxing, Jones said, “I am officially an Olympian…First off, all glory to God. This is for the kids in Orlando, and it is to show them that it is possible and that you can do it. I thought it was impossible in one part of my life, but I made it happen. Orlando, I am coming home an Olympian!“
With the help of strong jab and defense techniques, Jones jumped out early 5-0 lead. However, Dev came back in the second round and took four out of five judges’ cards at the showdown. Since Jones had an Olympic spot on the line, he could not let a cut that would end his Olympic dream. Therefore, he snatched the victory away from Dev’s hands using his jab and sidestep technique.
