Mr. Olympia 2022 was a gala event for many bodybuilding fans, but it failed to sustain its standard in certain areas. Many fans and veterans have called out the competition’s terrible production process this year. The latest remark has come from four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler who called it out as torture for the fans.

Mr. Olympia 2022 was a four-day competition with eleven different categories. The competition was scheduled from 15–18 December, featuring a variety of events each day. In special context to managing various events, avid followers had complaints that targeted the production team for missing out on prioritizing the biggest highlight of the event, the Men’s Open competition.

The 49-year-old Jay Culter has witnessed Mr. Olympia for years whose expertise gives him the right to point out the major mistakes made by the production team. According to the retired bodybuilder, in a recent YouTube video from an interview shot during Cutler Cast podcast channel, he voiced his opinions on how the audience and the Men’s Open contestants had to torturously wait for long hours for the results.

He stated, “Listen guys, let’s be honest: it’s complete b*lls**t that they are sitting backstage for hours on end… Remember, what time is this at [11 p.m. Pacific time]. This is absolutely ridiculous.”

Jay Cutler insisted that since people watched Mr. Olympia majorly for the Men’s Open division, the same should be prioritized among the rest of the events. According to Cutler, Mr. Olympia 2022 should have commenced with the prejudging round of the Men’s division.

Cutler feared that the audience would stop watching Mr. Olympia if it continued with the same stride. He added, “Why are you going to torture people to sit through certain [divisions].” Moreover, according to coach Chris Aceto, the pace of the competition was moving at such a snail’s pace that people were more interested in fidgeting with their phones rather than watching the competition.

Jay Cutler provided solutions to the problem

Besides criticizing the production house, Cutler also came up with solutions that certainly make a lot of sense. He suggested that events excluding the Men’s Open division should be allotted a separate day.  This way contestants and participants will not have to wait for long hours for the competition to start.

Moreover, since the slow unfolding of the event also seemed to affect the bodybuilders as per Cutler, it would be better to charter them to the event from the hotel only an hour before. This way, the competitors would not have to damage their pumped physiques while waiting backstage.

As the program began at 11 pm PST, he suggested the Men’s Open division start at least three hours before. The criticism must have come to the production team’s knowledge. Hopefully, they would work on it next year. Did you feel the same way about the 2022 season of Mr. Olympia? Share your observation in the comments.
