While most surfing champions rely on their surfboards to cut through waves, not the legendary bodysurfer Mike Stewart. The fabled surfer is arguably the greatest bodysurfer of all time. He has proved the same through his glorious track record in the world of bodyboarding and by pioneering big-wave tow-in surfing. A Pipeline master, Stewart holds various records and is the 14-time Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic winner.
Not only has Mike Steward impressed the surfing community with his prowess at competitive surfing, but recently, he added another achievement to his impressive roster. The 60-year-old Oahu man shared a video of his bodysurfing one of the longest barrels ever. This feat was witnessed by various professional surfers, such as Jamie O’Brien, Shane Dorian, and Kai Lenny.

The world-famous surfer shared a video on his official Instagram account, and he could be seen riding a barrel wave with no other equipment other than his god-given body. Along with the clip, the 9-time world title winner also shared the caption, “Yesterday afternoon I got some of the longest bodysurfing barrels of my life, miles from the nearest ocean. Amazing times we live in”. The unbelievable display of skills by the accomplished bodysurfer confounded some of the biggest names in the sport of surfing.

After watching the video, the iconic big-wave surfer Shand Dorian wrote, “So epic!!” The youngest surfer to enter the
Hall of Fame, Kai Lenny, also commented, saying, “Insane!!” Jamie O’Brien, one of the youngest surfers to win the Pipeline Masters, commented with a heart-eyes emoji and fire emoji. Joel Tudor, the legendary longboarder, also wrote, “Board or no board …you the man”. The stunt was performed by Mark Stewart in Boa Vista Village, a planned community which is located near São Paulo in Brazil.
The Boa Vista village houses one of the world’s largest wave pools powered by American Wave Machines. The wave pool spans over 6 acres and produces a variety of waves, one of them being the barrel that Stewart rode to glory. The Boa Vista Village is not only the site of this amazing wave pool, but also constitutes a commercial shopping area, an 18-hole golf course, a spa, an equestrian center, tennis courts, and a town center. Mike Stewart conquering the barrel at this classy joint is not a surprise, considering the fact that he is a celebrity of the Pipeline.
The most distinguished bodysurfer of all time
When it comes to bodysurfing, Mike Stewart is somewhat of a luminary. He definitely holds the most records at the Pipeline in this sport to date. Stewart holds the record for most consecutive wins at a single event, having 6 Pipeline wins from 1987 to 1992. He is also the only bodysurfer to compete at Pipe since 1982. The 60-year-old is also the oldest athlete to reach the Pipeline final, which he did at 48 years old in 2012.

Mike Stewart won 9 world titles at the Pipeline, thus becoming the holder of the most world titles won at the Pipeline. Proving that age is only a number, Mike Stewart has won a world tour event in his 20s, 30s, 40s, and his 50s. This iconic surfer was one of the earliest pioneers of bodysurfing and also a pioneer of big-wave tow-in surfing. His legacy is an inspiring one, astounding even the most acclaimed surfers in the industry.
