The excitement for Mr.Olympia has taken the fitness world by storm. Recently, seven-time Mr.Olympia, Phil Heath gave an interesting perspective on the competition talking about the NFL and NBA players who can choose bodybuilding as an alternative career.

Heath last appeared in Mr. Olympia 2020 and will continue to refrain from participating this year too. In 2022, he will appear as a commentator giving updates on the performance of the participants.

Phil Heath has an interesting take on NBA and NFL players

In many interviews, Heath has talked about the potential bodybuilders participating in Mr.Olympia 2022. The 42-year-old had an interesting take on NBA and NFL athletes who could take on bodybuilding as a career. In a recent interview with three-time Super Bowl Champion, Shannon Sharpe, Heath got candid.

During the conversation, Sharpe asked Heath about the NBA and NFL players who could step into the role of a bodybuilder. Heath deeply analyzed the question and answered;

DK Metcalf. Nate Robinson would’ve been dope. Dame Lillard could do it and Tony Allen back in the day, but most guys are too tall.”

Apart from the players that Heath named, he believed that most NBA and NFL players were too tall for the sport. According to studies, tall guys face difficulty in gaining lean mass and have to go through multiple traditional exercises that slowly help in bodybuilding.

Why is Heath not participating in Mr.Olympia 2022?

The seven-time Mr.Olympia went through a severe hernia operation less than a week after winning his seventh title in 2017. After taking time off to heal, he trained and appeared in 2018’s Mr.Olympia where his winning streak ended with Shawn Rhoden.

Heath competed in 2020 as well, where he lost the title again. Moreover, in 2021 he contracted COVID-19 which made him lose immense muscle and energy. In mid-July 2022, the bodybuilder announced that he will not participate in the upcoming championship.
