Starting his career by taking up minor roles to eventually earning the titular role in “The Terminator” series. Arnold’s filmography is illustrious. It is not only his roles that have created a lasting impression in fans’ minds but also his friendship with James Cameron holds a special place.
Taking a stand for a friend
Back in the day, the incredible chemistry between Cameron and Arnold helped them cement “The Terminator” franchise dominance globally. The sci-fi series from the 80s still has a separate fanbase. The popularity of the movie was such that Terminator became synonymous with Arnold.
Thus, when the franchise returned to James Cameron’s creative control, he totally refused to proceed further without his friend and lead star Arnold. Cameron made his stand clear; he said, “I get why you want to do that, but I can’t do that. I don’t want the phone call from my friend of 35 years.”
Cameron, director Tim Miller, and fellow producer David Ellison all agreed that “Dark Fate” would disregard the plots of the third through fifth films in an effort to return to what made the original “Terminator” (1984) and its sequel so successful.
Cameron knew to make the sequel a success, Arnold’s presence was a must. He thus said, “If you want me involved, then we’ve got to figure out how to have Arnold,” Believing in Arnold’s potential, Cameron further added, “I think there’s a way to do Arnold in a fresh way.”
