6-time Mr. Olypmia Dorian Yates is one of the legendary bodybuilders in the industry who was famously known as the Mass Monster because of his incredibly muscular body. The 60-year-old had the most eye-widening back muscles in bodybuilding history. owing credits for the highlight of his career, he claims that it was not only a result of a rigorous workout, as most would assume. In fact, it was also because he had all the good genes coming from his hardworking mother.
Back then, bodybuilding fans would drool over his pumped-up muscular back which was one of the reasons that made him a star. Hailing from a middle-class background, Dorian Yates and his fine genetic inheritance earned him six Olympia titles. So, what did his mother do differently?

In his latest Instagram post, The Shadow traveled back to the time when he had the most chiseled back muscles. The retired bodybuilder opened up that he was able to build great back muscles because of his genetics. Yates especially credited his mother who had wide lats because of her lifestyle choices.

He wrote in his post, “I had good genetics, especially my back as my mum’s lats were wide since she rode horses and worked on a farm, so she back was always strong.”
The Mass Monster stated that his back muscles were so good that they gave great competition to his contemporary bodybuilders like Momo Benaziza and Lee Haney who had better and thicker backs. Furthermore, he expressed in his post that people who train under him always notice an improvement in their backs first.
During his bodybuilding days, Yates performed back-focused workouts that helped him build his back muscles faster and better. In his post, he also shared his five solid back workouts.
Dorian Yates shares his back training regime
Well, surely to have such alluring back muscles, Yates had put in great effort in his training regime. Apart from sharing that bit about his mum, The Shadow also revealed the five workouts that he performed for his back.

The Mass Monster’s back training included Nautilus Pullover Machine to pre-exhaust the lats. Next, he did a pulldown exercise using a Hammer strength machine. Midway, Yates would change to dumbbell rows followed by seated cable rows or Hammer strength rows. Lastly, he finished his back routine with either weighted hyperextensions or partial deadlifts!
