Did changing partners give Ana Patricia Silva the edge she needed for her historic Olympic triumph?

Beach volleyball bent in Team Brazil’s favor during the women’s finals at the Paris Olympics. Ana Patricia and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa rocked the sand court last night in the Eiffel Tower Center Court with their performance as a team. Team Canada put tough competition in their face, but the South Americans got the best of them and this team-up seemed right in every way.

If you noticed a good chemistry between Patricia and Duda during the championship match, then you weren’t mistaken. In fact, you should pat yourself on your back for making an apt assumption. Both the Brazilians have previously worked and won as beach volleyball partners.

No wonder why this partnership worked at the Paris Olympics

Both Patricia and Duda first formed a team in 2014. This duo became the under-21 World Champions twice; once in 2016 and also in the following year. Unfortunately, this partnership came to an end, and the pair departed. They took different paths and settled in different cities with different partners. When 2022 arrived, they saw each other as partners on the sand again.

According to a 2022 article by Volleyball World, they became a part of the Praia Clube when the club wished to expand its hands to beach volleyball as well. They funded the coaching staff for the duo and let them train Duda and Patricia in the latter’s home state Minas Gerais after she spent the last five years living in Fortaleza.

In a way, her ‘homecoming’ can be considered lucky ever since Duda came back in her life as her volleyball partner. The team eventually debuted internationally, and the rest is now history as they successfully won against a fierce team in the finals. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about every team that participated in the beach volleyball event.

One of the biggest shockers for the viewers was seeing that Team USA wasn’t able to take a stand against any of the teams at the Paris Olympics. Both men and women that the United States had assigned to represent the nation on the sand court ended up facing disappointing defeats.

Have an interesting take?

Although they surely gave their best at the moment, it wasn’t enough to even put them up to compete for a bronze medal. The rest of the teams didn’t have a good time in the Eiffel Tower Center Court either, and the scoreboard speaks louder than anyone. One such surprise came when women’s Team Switzerland lost against Canada.

Talking about the women’s division of beach volleyball, Team Switzerland had put the United States out of competition with their skills. So, some had expected that they might get into the finals even if they didn’t come out victorious. However, on their road to determine who would reach the finals, the Swiss women lost to the Canadian team and instead had to compete for bronze rather than gold.

This defeat would have been a difficult one to deal with, but since they ended up bagging the third position, this might console them for now and fuel the motivation to do better in the future. Even if the Swiss had made it to the finals, it is unlikely that Team Brazil would have let the gold slide away.
