True patriotism lies among the people, not only the citizens. A real-life example is Ahmed Muhumed, the American track and field star. Originally belonging from Ethiopia, Ahmed Muhumed found himself seeking refuge in the USA in 2011, where alongside his home he also discovered a passion for track and field

Ever since then, he has never looked back once, as his steps lead him to his success. From humble beginnings to competing on the international stage, he has faced numerous challenges along the way. In a recent interview, he shared glimpses of his journey, where he unclosed information that he never did before. 

The journey to the World Cross-Championships

Olympian Amy Begley recently interviewed Ahmed Muhumed, regarding his preparation for the World Cross Championships in Serbia this season. She asked the track star to share his journey, to which he answered with excitement and said, “I feel like um all right so this is something I’ve never shared um that I think is uh really a testimony to my own kind of journey”. 

He shared insights about his freshman year cross-country running, where he befriended Abdul Ahmed, and turned out to be family friends with him. He expressed his gratitude for the support his friend and the family provided him with and said that played a major role. Ahmed recalled an incident from 2022, where he visited them after being a successful runner, “And to me that moment she Abdul’s mom still a good family friend was like oh my God I heard you trying to pursue professional running career”.

Expressing himself, he extended his gratitude to his family as he added, “I am very grateful that I was able to do and that my parents and family have ingrained within me is the ability one, to believe and two, to work hard for it”. Muhumed revealed that instead of being unique, his journey shows the power of self-belief and hard work. 

Ahmed Muhumed: The cross-country representative 

The 26-year-old proved his professional skills ever since his freshman year, as he set up his personal bests at 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m, clocking 7:48.01, 13:16.09 and 27:56.99 respectively. He kicked off 2024 with a victory at the USATF Cross Country Championships, where he grabbed the third position with a 29:12:3 in the men’s 10,000m final.

As a result of his performance, Ahmed Muhumed became eligible to represent his country at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, which would be held in Belgrade, Serbia. With a determined mind and unmatched skills, Ahmed Muhumed is on his path to creating history with each step he takes forward in his career.
