Mikaela Shiffrin has the most World Cup wins. Clinching the 87 victory, she broke all the records. On Wednesday, she was awarded the ESPY for “Best Athlete – Women’s Sports”. Besides these, she also has five FIS Crystal Globes. She was among the four top athletes competing for the “Best Athlete – Women’s Sports” title, which included titans like Sophia Smith, Iga Świątek, and A’ja Wilson. Finally, the award went to Mikaela Shiffrin for her top performance in her field.

The US Ski Team uploaded a video of Shiffrin accepting the ESPY and her following acceptance speech on their official Instagram account, with the caption, “It’s been a long journey, and it’s not over yet”. In her speech, she said, “It’s such a pleasure and such an honor to be part of this event”.

After thanking everyone who has supported her in her rise, she went on to broach an important topic. She asked, “Why is a record actually important?” In her reply, she said that most athletes put more importance on setting new records or resetting old ones. While these are important, there are other aspects of sports that matter more.

Mikaela said that as athletes, it is their duty to inspire the next generation. She emphasized that being a role model and promoting sportsmanship, dedication, and perseverance should be the primary focus. Mikaela believes that records are merely a byproduct of hard work and passion, and the true value lies in the positive impact they can have on young athletes.
