“Very Troubling”: Lindsey Vonn’s Father Wasn’t in Favor of Her Marrying Olympian Way Older Than Her Age

Skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is known for her technique on snow. She has been one of the fans’ favorites since she entered the Olympics in 2002. However, the snow queen got retired in 2018. Apart from skiing, one more aspect of her life grabs considerable attention.

Vonn’s love life is a tangled maze for her fans. In addition, from time to time, her father has raised an issue about her love life. Once, she went through a separation from her father when she married former American skier Thomas Vonn.

Disapproval of Lindsey Vonn’s father

Lindsey’s father, Alan Kildow, wasn’t happy about their relationship. Their nine-year age difference was one of the primary issues that caused Alan a problem. Vonn, however, had already made up her mind to marry Thomas in 2007. So she made the morally tough decision to choose her spouse against her father’s opinion.

In 2008, her father, Alan, addressed his thoughts on her decision. He said, “As a father, as a parent, you want to protect and guide your children.” Talking about how difficult this situation was for him, he called it “very troubling.” But in the end, he had to accept Thomas as his family. “She’s made her decision, and we’ve welcomed him to our family.”

On the other hand, he added how he stayed connected with Vonn despite the difficulties. Thomas stated, “We’d have a day or two of overlap, and we just enjoyed each other’s company. We kept in touch by e-mail.” Meanwhile, Lindsey’s love for Thomas was at its peak, and she stated how it had forced her to take sides. She first said, “I loved him,” for Thomas, and then stated, ‘And I didn’t want to end my relationship just because [my father] said so. It forced me to take sides.”

In Park City, Utah, the couple tied the marriage bond by taking vows in September 2007. In addition, Lindsey’s father was not invited to the wedding, which caused havoc. Thomas and Lindsey were both Olympians during their astounding career.

However, things didn’t stay the way the couple planned. In 2013, Lindsey and Thomas divorced due to a mutual decision after Lindsey started dating a professional golf player, Tiger Woods. But that resulted in being in a breakup. Since then, Vonn has focused on her career and retired in 2019.
