“Hey! Just wanna thank you for all the birthday wishes. I appreciate it and I had a nice day. I had … just run out of time to go through the right progression to be ready to race at the GS at the World Cup Finals on Sunday. So, we are taking GS off the schedule. I’m going to focus on the Slalom…. I’m looking forward to pushing out of the gate one more time and then getting right into prep for next year. So, thank you again for the birthday wishes, and yeah, here we go.” Mikaela Shiffrin’s latest Instagram post revealed.

Expected to compete at technical events only, the 2x Olympic Champion, Mikaela Shiffrin is ready to showcase her skills at the weekend Slalom. Scheduled from the 16th of March 2024 in Saalbach, the 7x World Champion was supposed to take part in both, the regular Slalom and the GS – Giant Slalom. However, as per the latest update by her on Instagram, she announced her withdrawal from the GS and is now only going for the Slalom now. Reasoning the same with her unpreparedness, she chose to not go for an event that she wasn’t ready to strike the first place for.
If not the GS, then the usual Slalom
Having the characteristics of both the Slalom and a downhill, the Giant Slalom (GS), is what Mikaela Shiffrin had aimed for in this season. Known for its speed, this race bears a longer route and thus sets it apart from the usual Slalom. “I just want to try to get one GS race before the end of the season, that’s my big goal.” said the 2x Olympian a few days ago.
