Alpine Skiing legend, Lindsey Vonn, has always been supportive of her fellow women sportspersons. This was evident again recently during the women’s soccer world cup. The ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup served as an early upset for the United States as they were knocked out of the tournament. After a bunch of disappointing results, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team faced Sweden in the round of 16 tie of the tournament. However, after a goalless draw, they were eventually knocked out by Sweden in penalties.

This result came as a shock to women’s football as the USWNT is the top-ranking team in world football. Additionally, the USWNT came into the competition, winning the last two FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2015 and 2019. This spectacular run of form made them favorites to clinch their third world cup in a row. As the favorites crashed out of the tournament, they had to face online trolling. But Lindsey Vonn displayed again that she will not give in to trolling or cyberbullying.

After their exit from the World Cup, USWNT’s star captain Megan Rapinoe was subject to a host of online trolling on the popular social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The tweet took a jab at Rapinoe for missing a crucial penalty and also at Vonn, referencing Vonn’s own fall during her criticism of former President Donald Trump. However, the skier was quick to respond by commenting, “I don’t see you out there on the pitch.” However, Lindsey Vonn ensured to use all her social media platforms to support her fellow sports persons.

Recently she took to the latest offering from Instagram, Threads. Vonn compared the two platforms, X and Threads. She claimed that after seeing all the negative comments about the USWNT crashing out of the World Cup, she is happy that the internet also has Threads, which is a more positive space. A part of Vonn’s thread read, “I’m proud of our women! Win or lose they have done so much for women in sports and women in general. Next WC they will be back with a vengeance.” This comparison between the two tech platforms comes during ongoing talks of a cage fight between the bosses of the two most powerful social media platforms of our time.

X CEO Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg are the two tech visionary giants at the center of this event. Naturally, their two social media platforms are also constantly working towards one-upping each other. However, things are now taking a serious turn as both CEOs have agreed to a cage fight match to settle their tech rivalry. Mark Zuckerberg, the mastermind behind Meta, has long been honing his combat skills with rigorous jiu-jitsu training. At the same time, SpaceX and Tesla visionary Musk have claimed he has been lifting weights.

Musk has also indicated that the fight will be live-streamed on his platform X, while Zuckerberg has contested this claim. As the world awaits this iconic fight, Lindsey Vonn’s recent thread suggests she prefers Threads more than X. Her past record shows that she never shies away from a fight and will always stand by her fellow athletes in their time of need. In a world often divided by opinions and viewpoints, Lindsey Vonn’s support for Rapinoe showcases the unity that sports can foster.
