Mikaela Shiffrin won the downhill race at St. Moritz today, securing her 91st career World Cup victory. Her victory was her fourth in downhill competitions, which is quite an accomplishment for a skier whose main concentration remains technical events such as slalom and giant slalom.

Her dominance in alpine skiing comes from defeating her rivals—today, it was surpassing standout downhill racer Sofia Goggia by 0.15 sec. Which makes her the G.O.A.T. of alpine skiing, but does she agree with the assumed status? A recent update from the Olympics update reveals the same.

What do you think you need to do to be considered the greatest female athlete of all time?asked the host after her recent win. Posted by @Olympics on X, the clip showed Shiffrin asking about the much-headlined moniker given to the most decorated alpine skier and 2X Olympian—Mikaela Shiffrin. To the question Mikaela replied,I don’t think I can do anything to truly be the greatest of all time. For many people, it’s not me. And that’s okay.

She further added, “I’m doing everything I can in this sport. I’m trying to push the sport, and push the limits and share it… like show my passion, and share this with the world, the way that I love it, and hopefully bring fans to the sport.” After her, a lineup of American skiers among world’s top skiers noted how they agreed on her G.O.A.T. status, further explaining their reasons for the same.

The sweetest words came from her Norwegian alpine skier boyfriend, Aleksander Kilde, who said, “Me knowing that she’s the most winning athlete in the world, and still, she’s always you know, fighting for the next level always. That’s something special in her.” Now, closely working on her career turning wins now, Shiffrin turns serious around standout rivals.

The race strategy

Even though Shiffrin only began competing in downhill racing six years into her World Cup career, she has four victories from just 21 starts, but she hasn’t taken home a downhill medal at a major championship.
