Lindsey Vonn, the legendary skier, redefined the idea of boldness. The grit and determination to continue her arduous journey despite gruesome challenges and career-threatening injuries have proven that a willing heart is all that’s needed to go that extra mile. She went on to earn a massive 82 World Cup victories during her career. However, when she arrived at a point her body could no longer sustain the pain, she retired.

Her audacity and courage make her an athlete the sporting world is proud of. Fair to say, her qualities are unique and hard to learn and practice. In an interview, she discussed a quality that made her different from her siblings.

Lindsey Vonn calls it unteachable

An episode of the Drew Barrymore Show featured the skiing sensation opening up on a quality she believes is unteachable. The discussion began with the host talking about her 8-year-old daughter. She described her as ‘the most go-for-it kid.’ The host continued that the little girl hurls into a huge tide, jumps the stairs, and is fearless. Lindsey’s response, stating her siblings as examples, gave an amusing turn to the discussion.

The ski diva said, “That’s awesome. You can’t teach that.” Curiously, the host asked, “Really?” Referring to fearlessness, Lindsey replied, “No, you cannot teach that.” Furthermore, she shared about her four younger siblings.

None of them were like me.” She said although they were motivated and hardworking. She reiterated she was different from them because they all had the fear factor. Lindsey added, “Something maybe is amiss upstairs but I don’t get afraid at pretty much anything.

Vonn’s family was very supportive

The host grew curious to know more about the unteachable quality. Lindsey shared that her family never prevented her from doing risky things. Furthermore, she said her grandparents would pray for her whenever she skied. But they never said, “slow down, or this is too dangerous.”

She continued that her parents always encouraged her to follow her dreams. There was no moment of discouragement like, “Oh girls, don’t do this.” Her parents created a positive environment to grow, prosper, put in her effort and be the best. The wise skiing legend continued that kids should be encouraged to do what they want to do, as eventually, they would gravitate toward their passion.

Also, she added that educating children on the consequences of their actions if anything went wrong would help them understand the risks better. However, she described fearlessness as a distinctive quality and gave a positive connotation to it.
