One of the most awaited moments of the skiing world arrived on Saturday. Skiing icon Mikaela Shiffrin has now become the leading skier with the highest world cup victories under her belt. Shiffrin won her 87th world cup match in the slalom event in Are, Sweden, to reach the stars in the sport’s history. However, by breaking this record, Shiffrin has made a peculiar co-incidental stat match with the NBA legend LeBron James, who also created a fresh record last month.
NBC Sports’ official Twitter account shared the interesting observation pointed out by Nick Zaccardi. Let’s have a look at what Zaccardi had to offer.

Before diving into the wild stat, let’s recount the new records created by these two legends. On one hand, Mikaela Shiffrin broke the record of Ingemar Stenmark by crossing his 86 world cup victories. Whereas, King James broke the record of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by breaking his record of the highest points (38,387) in the NBA. LeBron scored 38 points in the match, leading his points tally to 38,390 on 7th February.
As NBC Sports shared the post, they tweeted, “This stat about @MikaelaShiffrin and @KingJames is wild.” What turns out to be “wild” is that both the previous record holders etched their names in their individual sports histories in the same year (1989), something that the new record holders cleaned the slates with their own names in the same year again (2023)!

These miraculous stats of these four legends has reached an insane height of coincidence. However, records will come and go, the legends live forever. Even though it took Shiffrin and James 34 years to break the records of the greats of the past, it won’t be long again before someone else will better their records to climb the ladder of records to the top.
