The horrifying news of an earthquake in Syria, Turkey, and neighboring regions has shaken the entire world. According to the latest reports, a disastrous shockwave of 7.8 magnitude ended up killing over 2500 people till now. The news gathered people across the globe to mourn for the countries on social media. Even the nations have promised to help with relief funds and rescuers. Like other sports communities such as MMA, UFC, and F1, the Alpine Skiing community also sympathized with the victims. Recently, former ski racer Lindsey Vonn shared her heartfelt grief for the catastrophe via social media.

The people there are sharing several grim videos with the world, depicting their situation. To one such video, the former ski legend reacted and reposted it on her Instagram.

On Monday, the citizens of Syria and Turkey faced the most powerful earthquake in the country in at least a century. With nearly 2500 having fallen victim to the calamity, the news of the sudden demise of a soccer team goalkeeper increased the grief even more. Lately, Vonn shared a story on her Instagram, expressing her heartfelt sorrow with the world. Vonn reacted with two emojis🙏🏻💔, while sharing a video of the incident. She posted a video from the country and shared her grief and respect for the victims. The video had a caption, “Rescue efforts underway after two massive earthquakes rock Turkey and Syria.”

People from different sports fraternities came together to take part in the misery. Athletes, from UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad to NBA star Alperen Sengun, from Lewis Hamilton to Esteban Ocon, conveyed their grieving through social media. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “Our teams are on the ground assessing the needs and providing assistance. We count on the international community to help the thousands of families hit by this disaster, many of whom were already in dire need of humanitarian aid in areas where access is a challenge.”

What happened exactly?

Reportedly, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake first hit Turkey. Then again, with some time gap, a second one, more destructive, demolished the buildings and caused more harm. Indeed, this was one of the most disastrous quakes the country witnessed over the decade.

Nations from Europe, Asia, North America, and the Middle East have come forward and promised to carry out relief in the grief-stricken areas. The increasing number of casualties is indeed creating concerns across the globe.
