Lindsey Vonn, the retired, legendary alpine skier turned businesswoman, is a go-getter. During her journey of three Olympic medals and four World Championships, she endured excruciating pain and tension to achieve her goals. Her iron will to not give up is awe-inspiring. The lady boss skier contributes her success significantly to her mother, who recently passed away.

Contrary to her sport that involves zooming downhill, the skiing great rose higher and higher, with self-awareness evolving herself into a self-actualized individual one step at a time. Lindsey’s mom, Linda Krohn, battled ALS for a year before she took her last breath on the 27th of August. After four days of announcing her death on Instagram, the daughter shares another post expressing the grief of losing her mother.

Not remembering is painful. Not forgetting is painful. One can say that the hardest kind of agony, though, is not knowing what to do. Vonn has expressed on several occasions that she was eternally grateful to her mom and could never forget the pain her mom tolerated since the day she was born. She also recounted the endless sacrifices her mom made for her career.

The skiing champion took to Instagram to share what her mom meant to her. And how hard it was without her. She said, “Grieving is not simple. Sadness comes in waves like the ocean but it can also come in like a tsunami and drown me.”

Devastated Vonn, added, “This will be a long journey and one I wish I wasn’t on, but I am still thankful for many things.” while trying to handle her overwhelming emotions of grief and helplessness.

The only consolation one can give oneself to accept reality is to choose gratitude over grief. Heart heavy with emotions and memories, Vonn added, “I’m thankful for the time I had with her, for the smiles, the tears, the road trips, the life lessons, the successes and the failures. But mostly I’m thankful that she is no longer suffering. She is up in heaven as a beautiful angel watching over us.”

Vonn had a beautiful connection with her mother

Vonn is caring, and tender and values human relations as evident in her posts and the rapport she shares with her family. The world champion skier also mentioned a lesson she learnt from her mom, “When my Mom was sick, she would lay there in her hospital bed, unable to eat, drink or walk, and raise her arms high in the air, “Today is another great day!”

She concluded with an optimistic note, “I will try not to let the tsunami of her loss overwhelm me, but instead, to go out into the world with her spirit and her light. She will never be gone because she is always with me. “
