Imagine an idyllic scene from a Christmas fairy tale: fearless skiers in colorful skiing gear, set out to reach the enchanted Santa Claus Village with a fanciful mission in mind- win their reindeer. But, Mikaela Shiffrin entered the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup with a freshly injured bone and determination.

Being the winningest skier present women’s slalom day, the mounted pressure rose after a series of setbacks. Levi ended up being her 89th World Cup title location. The win followed by the tradition turned into an early Christmas present!

After finishing second to Vlhova in the first run, the American skier edged out the Croatian Leona Popovic by only eighteen-hundredths of a second in the second run. Vlhova was in a solid position, but she straddled a gate, giving Shiffrin the advantage. After her win, Mikaela said, ?Petra really did a master class in slalom skiing this weekend, and she was by far ahead, so, in my mind, she earned this victory.?

She made history by becoming the first skier to win a World Cup event 12 times in a row. She also made history by being the first to win seven slaloms in one location. Shiffrin’s incredible victory run was topped off by the achievement of her 139th World Cup podium, breaking a tie she had with the retired Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher. How fun it is to toast Shiffrin’s skill on the slopes at Santa Claus Village, where winning earns a quirky real reindeer as a prize. Shiffrin now has seven wins in the previous World Cups held there, which is an excellent record. He has also gathered a lovely quartet of reindeer partners. Her reindeer names include Rudolph, Sven, and Mr. Gru, Ingemar, Sunny, Lorax joined by Grogu this week each bringing a unique element of magic to the winter paradise.

Her focus now shifts towards her next challenges, a giant slalom and slalom, which are scheduled to take place in Killington, Vermont, during the Thanksgiving weekend. However, Mikaela Shiffrin, consistent with her tendency to opt out of speed races, has chosen to skip these particular events.
