Lindsey Vonn, the alpine skiing legend is famous for the legacy she created with her monumental 82 World Cup wins. Broken bones, injuries, depression, sleeping disorder, and other obstacles in her personal life didn’t stand a chance to overpower Vonn’s determination. The iron-willed skiing racer is fighting a tough battle with her emotions and her mother’s absence.

Vonn’s mom aged 70 passed away on August 26th after a year-long struggle with ALS. To honor her mother’s life, a celebration of life was organized last Friday at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina. Lindsey took to Instagram to convey gratitude to all those who joined her on this occasion.

Lindsey Vonn is overwhelmed with a myriad of emotions

The Olympic gold medalist expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who joined her to celebrate Lindy Anne Lund’s glorious life from March 25, 1952, to August 26, 2022. Lindsey said, “Thank you for everything from the bottom of my heart to everyone who came from far and wide to celebrate my mother’s life last week.

In an interview, she expressed that there were good days and bad days but every day with her mom was a great day. “My family has all come together to help her, which has been a testament to the person and mother she is,” she said. In the Instagram story, Lindsey also mentioned her siblings as the best siblings anyone would ask for.  She added, “We all were strong together for mom and I know she is proud.”

She also added a post saying, “Trying to get back to normal.” Lindsey has been vocal about how instrumental her mom has been in her life and expressed gratitude for everything she has accomplished in life. 

Creating awareness about ALS to honor her mother

Lindsey is fighting hard to accept her mom’s demise. When her mom was diagnosed with ALS, initially they wanted to keep it to themselves. But her mom wanted to show her battle to help others. Recognizing the potential her position has, the skiing legend said that she would do her best to honor her and raise awareness for ALS.

Lindsey considered her mom as a picture of strength and resilience. According to the skiing icon, her mom’s fighting spirit was unmatchable. When her mom was suffering the ALS battle, she counted the times her mom gave her indomitable will to keep fighting back whenever she had an injury or obstacle in skiing and life. “Now she is exuding that resilience more than ever before,” she added

Needless to say, her mother played a huge role in shaping her life and character. Lindsey said, “It’s because of the example that my mother set that I was able to overcome whatever obstacle was thrown at me. Thank you, Mom.”
