Mikaela Shiffrin, referred to as the GOAT of?Alpine skiing?shared a few months back about her record-breaking skiing achievement in March 2023 and how she is preparing for the 2023-24 World Cup. It’s October, and the second round of the FIS World Cup is just about to happen on 11th November. People are questioning whether Mikaela Shiffrin will take the title home again.

This event features a total of 4 disciplines: Slalom, Slalom giant, Super-G, and downhill. The competition started on 28th October 2023 and will end on 24th March next year. Now, the champions are focusing on the second phase, which is the Slalom World Cup events in Levi, Finland. Amid all this excitement, Mikaela Shiffrin shared an incident just a day before the competition.

Persevering through injury on the road to recovery

Recently, Mikaela shared a post on Instagram in which she was skiing, and all of a sudden, she fell down and captioned it, “So excited to race this weekend! Slalom is good for the soul ?Unfortunately, I had a wee tumble last week and took a fair amount of impact through my left knee. But I’m lucky (and so very grateful) to have come away with a bone bruise but no other major damage! We’ve been taking it easy and strategically building back into load, skiing, and finally, some gates?and I’m feeling quite good now, just in time for the weekend.”

 

She further added that she is thankful to her team, which included her coaches, the medical staff in the US (whom she affectionately referred to as miracle workers), and the supportive individuals they met at various clinics in Finland. She expressed how their support and guidance made her journey easy.

Mikaela Shiffrin on overcoming fear and vulnerability in extreme sports

Mikaela Shiffrin also talked about how risky this sport is, where accidents and crashes are not uncommon. Her own experience was a reminder that despite being prowled in it, she was still vulnerable to such accidents. Regardless of the recovery timeline, whether it’s a day, a few weeks, or even a couple of years, the element of fear is ever-present in sports.

She offered words of encouragement to young athletes grappling with fears of failure, pain, and more, emphasizing that fear doesn’t need to be eradicated to achieve greatness in one’s career and life. She concluded with a heartfelt thank you for the support and encouragement she had received from her supporters.
