Retirement is no excuse for Lindsey Vonn to rest on her laurels. She does it yet again, bigger than ever. The alpine skiing icon raged through the most difficult slope in the world, The Streif, during the dark hours of the day. The 4x overall World Cup champion conquered the 3,312 m pass and became the first ever woman to do so on the men’s downhill.

The dare-devil skier took to her social media page and shared a heartfelt message to celebrate this moment of pride for women, and the sports fraternity as a whole.

On her Instagram page, Vonn took a moment to express her feelings about the historic win. “What a ride! Being the first woman ever to do something is so meaningful to me, it’s hard to put into words.” the skiing legend penned in her post.

The winner of 82 World Cups shared the “amazing” feeling and sense of achievement she felt standing at the finish area. “[I] have a better perspective of how difficult it really is”, said Vonn. That said, she took this opportunity to give credit to the team without whom this wouldn’t be possible.

On the day of her win, it goes without saying that Vonn would have missed her mother who she lost in August last year. In another post, she talks about her mother and how proud she would have been of her daughter’s win.

Vonn mentions her late mom in her Instagram post as her “guardian Angel watching over me. I know she would have been proud.” Contrary to most people who would feel content and relieved after pulling such a feat successfully, Vonn said she wanted to ski downhill again.

Describing it as fun and amazing, she hopes to have made “a bigger impact” on “at least a few little girls” to push themselves towards achieving their goals. Perhaps the word ‘impossible’ does not exist in Vonn’s dictionary. What do you think of Vonn’s achievement? Tell us in the comments.
