The FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup is currently underway and actively presents the fresh faces of podium finishers. In the run, the power couple of the slopes, Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Kilde are attracting much attention from their momentum. While Shiffrin celebrated her 92nd World Cup victory, the alpine skiing scene took a dramatic turn for Kilde who faced unanticipated climatic cancellations in races.

However, the 2022 World Cup downhill champion climbed his way back to the top after his ski broke in Thursday’s race. Despite the setback, Kilde ended the season’s final race returning in the top-three race ranks.

Yesterday, Kilde suffered a dismal finish in the men’s downhill race day 1 in Bormio, Italy, after his ski broke apart due to a contact with a rock. He returned back to the slopes today winning the men’s World Cup Super G race, re-capturing the podium again. Kilde’s bronze medal moment was caught in an Instagram story by atomicski, which the Norwegian skier reposted on his account.

The Swiss skier Marco Odermatt underlined his supremacy by winning the final World Cup event of 2023 with a dominant performance on the difficult Stelvio course. Kilde took third place, barely lagging behind Austria’s Raphael Haaser. After Austrian skier Marco Schwarz tragically suffered a season-ending knee injury in the downhill race, Kilde become Odermatt’s main rival in the circuit now.

However, recovering from the downhill accident himself, Kilde explained his earlier loss, saying, “The inside of the left ski had quite some rips in it. Then it’s impossible to ski Bormio because it’s so icy. Every time I went on the edge, it slid away.” Now, despite the personal challengers, the biggest task for Kilde this season remains the men’s best skier Odermatt.
