After 6.8 Million Ticket Sales, Paris Olympics Hits Spectators With an Upsetting News

The global sporting event Olympics 2024 will be held in Paris from July 26 – August 11. Over the span of these 15 days, 700 competitions will take place, deciding the fate of many athletes. However, Paris has decided to make some changes to the game. A normal average fan will now not be allowed to celebrate the wins of their favorite athlete with drinks. Authorities have decided to ban alcohol from the public at the event.

But what makes this change more unfortunate is the price of tickets. Fans paid a hefty amount to witness the magic of the Olympics. The authorities in Paris claim that the high demand for tickets is displaying immense popularity and anticipation, as 6.8 million out of 10 million tickets were sold out 14 months prior to the event. But it costs a lot to buy these tickets, too. The highest-priced tickets are available at a cost of € 2,700 or $ 2,900. While the cheapest tickets for $26 were sold out quickly, leaving many fans with no choice. And now people who were lucky enough to book the tickets won’t be allowed to enjoy this event to the fullest either.

New Updates at Olympics 2024

The Paris authorities have decided to ban Alcohol for average fans. However, the same rule doesn’t apply to VIPs. Fans with access to luxurious seats and the best views will be able to chug as much alcohol as they want at the games. While the public will have access to soft drinks and water only.

This dispensation was justified by the Paris organizers under a law passed in 1991. According to Elvin’s law of 1991, alcohol is not for sale to the public at French stadiums. Moreover, the law can justify dispensation for 10 events per organizer, per event, and per municipality. In an interview with the Guardian, a spokesperson stated, “Paris 2024 will be organizing more than 700 competition sessions over 15 days of competition.” The spokesperson added, “It is the strict application of French law that allows catering services that include the provision of alcohol to operate in hospitality areas, as they are governed by a separate law on catering.” But this isn’t the first time that an alcohol ban has been placed at such an event.

Previous Alcohol Ban at the Olympics

The decision to forbid alcohol was also made at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in order to prioritize the safety and well-being of athletes and spectators. But due to the pandemic, the event took place without the presence of a crowd. The last time in 2016 games held in Rio de Janeiro beer and wine were available at the Olympics Now, Paris has decided to take the same path as Tokyo.

All in all, this action left many fans sad as they spent their hard-earned money on the event. Such rules highlight the indifference that exists in society. Hopefully, now the fans will be able to witness an exceptional event and enjoy it as much as possible within such exceptions and rules.
