Track and field athletes enjoy their competitiveness on the field and in their leisure time. Recently, a fun banter sparked between World No. 1 Quanesha Burks and World No. 2 Tara Davis on a $5,000 long jump showdown. Moreover, drawing the attention of netizens on social media on the banter, another Track and Field athlete shared a collective series of evidence explaining that the need of the hour is the Burks and Davis showdown.

On May 2, athlete Katelyn Naomi shared pictures and videos that led Tara Davis to openly challenge her competitor Quanesha Burks on Twitter. Naomi also commented her take on the banter in her post.

Tara Davis has a message for Quanesha Burks

After achieving a glorious World No. 1 honor at the 2022 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, Burks is currently preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Recently she shared a video of her long jump practice session on Twitter with the caption, “World Lead. I don’t need the “hype” my results making enough NOISE!” She suggested that her performances speak for her caliber and that she does not need validation from others. After this, she shared an Instagram story along with her and her competitor Tara Davis’ world ranking. In her story, she wrote the caption, “Top 2 but Not #2.”

Coming across Burks’s social media posts and stories, Davis decided to challenge her in the long jump. At first, she posted a status on Twitter to tease Burks that read, “hype”. Later on, she shared an Instagram story, challenging Burks to face her in a long jump showdown anytime and anywhere she wanted to. Davis added in the video that the winner would get $5,000 and she would also pay for Burks’s flight.

Observing the banter circulating between the two athletes, Katelyn Naomi also joined the fun. She collectively posted all the videos and stories of Burks and Dvais on her Twitter account with the caption, “You know what the world needs rn? OUR TOP 2 LONG JUMPERS GOING HEAD TO HEAD” Naomi also added, “Tara say she got 5k on the table right neooow to make this happen. Aint no more ducking from the smoke this season… ”

Well, since neither Burks nor Davis has commented anything it seems like it was the end of the banter session, or maybe not! Although, Quanesha Burks is at a great place in her career today, her journey to the Olympics has been an inspiring one.

Quanesha Burks worked at McDonald’s before her Olympic debut

From the age of 17, Quanesha had big responsibilities on her shoulders. She had to take care of her grandmother and her younger sisters while studying. Burks would also go to McDonald’s at Hartselle to work after her school hours. The athlete always wished to go to college despite the circumstances in her life.

Hence, she began appearing for sports scholarships in the long jump. That’s when she decided to take the sport seriously. Burks successfully jumped 20 ft during her scholarship test. From there on, her quest to reach the Olympics began. Burks consistently won championships like World Outdoor Junior (U20) Championships, NACAC Outdoor Championships, and USATF Indoor Championships. Eventually, in 2020, she achieved the bronze medal in U.S. Olympic Team Trials and qualified for Tokyo.
